For a more intense chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semisweet.
If you prefer a less boozy flavor, start with half the amount of rum and adjust to taste.
Finely chop some nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, and add them to the sprinkle coating for added texture and flavor.
For an alcohol-free version, substitute orange juice or strong brewed coffee for the rum.
