Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Generously grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package directions, until al dente. Drain well and set aside. (10 minutes)

03

Step

While the pasta is cooking, heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, until deeply golden brown and caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. Reduce heat if necessary to prevent burning. (30 minutes)

04

Step

In a very large mixing bowl, combine the cooked egg noodles, caramelized onions, beaten eggs, and bread crumbs. Season generously with salt and pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well combined. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Pour the noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the top evenly with sweet paprika. Drizzle lightly with vegetable oil, if desired, for extra crispness. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is deeply golden brown, crispy, and the kugel is set. (60 minutes)

07

Step

Let cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon to the noodle mixture.
If you prefer a sweeter kugel, add 2-3 tablespoons of sugar to the onion mixture while caramelizing.
For a richer flavor, use olive oil or schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) instead of vegetable oil.
The kugel can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated. Add 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
